“Meteorites,” Herbert W. Franke, 1960

“Meteorites,” Herbert W. Franke, 1960 (or 1961?) – (short short) Tiny meteorites bombard the an astronaut’s craft.  He chronicles the process, which will certainly result in his death, in his official log.  At the same time, he assures his love that he’ll return home.

Comments: Read in The Black Mirror and Other Stories: An Anthology of Science Fiction from Germany and Austria.  A dying astronaut story told through a series of short missives that themselves perhaps resemble a “shower” or “sparks” of feeling.

Author: Wikipedia: “Herbert W. Franke (born 14 May 1927 in Vienna) is an Austrian scientist and writer. He is considered one of the most important science fiction authors in the German language. He is also active in the fields of future research, speleology as well as computer graphics and digital art.”
