“The Remorseful,” C. M. Kornbluth, 1953

“The Remorseful,” C. M. Kornbluth, 1953 – Humanity has destroyed itself through war.  A man wanders the world, apparently the last survivor.  An alien insect-composite being with no individual “self” arrives and tries to communicate with him.

Comments: Read in Star Science Fiction Stories No. 2.

Author: Wikipedia: “Cyril M. Kornbluth (July 2, 1923 – March 21, 1958) was an American science fiction author and a notable member of the Futurians.”  Interested readers: “Re-reading Kornbluth” by Robert Silverberg.  See also James Sallis’s review of C.
