“The Eternal Man,” D. D. (Drury Dubose) Sharp, 1929 – A scientist discovers an anti-aging serum and gives it to his rat, then himself.  While it may afford immortality, it also causes paralysis.  He watches humanity live its life and concludes that human life must be improved before it is lengthened.
